Brad Patterson of AME said this: "When we decided to start looking for and testing boring heads our goal was to find an operator friendly tool that would reduce cycle time. Within hours of use, we knew the Digi-Bore would meet those criteria. The Digi-Bore bored holes much faster than what we had been using with superior tool life which made management happy. In addition to that, the tool was immediately accepted on the shop floor by tooling setup people and the machine operators – which was even more important. Operators like the tool because they no longer have to worry that, after adjustment, they might cut a hole oversize. With the Digi-Bore, if you dial the tool out .0001” or .0002”, you get .0001” or .0002” each and every time. The Digi-Bore delivers consistent performance so the operator no longer worries about bore size and can focus his energies on other aspects of the job, which really helps our throughput when setting up a job. Advanced Machine and Engineering is like a lot of US companies – we recognize the need for “lean” and employee involvement in all our processes. We (management) weren’t forcing the shop floor to use the tool – the shop floor was “pulling” the tool into more and more applications – we needed to purchase more heads and bars to satisfy different applications identified by our operators. All this was fully supported by the Wolhaupter sales / support staff. On many occasions Ken Anderson would provide different inserts or boring bars (even specials) for the operators to use for specific applications on a trial basis. This relationship building with the shop floor people has been very positive for us. Purchase and use of the Wohlhaupter tool was a win from many points of view – we make better holes faster with less setup which allows us to complete globally and it has supported our lean / employee empowerment processes. It is a good example of superior technology helping people do a better job with less effort." |
